Read some stories! Read, watch and listen to a lot of stories. Start to immerse yourself in the world of survival. Make this a really big, huge thing in your life. Start to get used to the idea of becoming obsessed with survival. As you learn from the experiences of others, the things that you seek will seem ever more a real part of your own life.
When you start doing this, it can seem intimidating. Especially if you greatly desire to have similar abilities as those whose stories you explore. And especially if your own life seems nothing like this!
Don’t stress.
Keep at it. You will start to make friends with these things, the more that you proceed. Keep your eyes on the prize.
“Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others.”
Otto von Bismarck
Stories of survival offer profound benefits, as they provide valuable insights into resilience, adaptability, and the strength of the human spirit. We learn how individuals overcome adversity, turning problems into a source of inspiration and motivation for ourselves and others facing challenges.

Survival stories teach critical problem-solving skills and emphasize the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and resourcefulness. By examining these experiences, we can gain a deep understanding of our own capabilities, and learn to approach difficulties with courage and determination. Stories can develop feelings of social connectedness, even over great distances, and between people who never meet or even communicate.
WHAT STORIES?
When it comes to survival stories, those that highlight human resilience, ingenuity, and the will to overcome adversity stand out as the most compelling. For example, “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer delves into the real-life journey of Christopher McCandless, showing both the allure and danger of living off the land. Similarly, “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand tells the inspiring story of Louis Zamperini, a World War II airman who survived a plane crash, weeks adrift at sea, and brutal treatment in a POW camp. Fictional works like “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy also provide profound insight into survival, depicting a father and son’s journey through a post-apocalyptic world.
These stories not only entertain but also provoke thought about the human spirit and the lengths we can go to endure in the face of overwhelming challenges.
