The survival mindset must be gradually cultivated. It’s not something you can put on like a hat, and then forget about it. How can this be done, for real?

Obviously, for something to grow, that something has to keep existing. If we are growing a mindset, we need to keep returning to that mindset over a long period of time. There is no other way.

In order to return to that mindset over a period of time, there has to be motivation to do this. This is the point where most people will fail.

“Persevere in thy quest and thou shalt find what thou seekest. Pursue thy aim unswervingly and thou shalt gain victory. Struggle earnestly and thou shalt triumph.”

— Buddha

Seek to find the right balance between fear as a motivation and happiness as a motivation. If you have too much happiness, you won’t bother doing anything different. If you have too much fear, you won’t be able to face doing anything different. Try to identify which of these you fall into, and look for balance.

Look for things that inspire you, which are also relevant to that which you seek. You can have too much contentment (see previous paragraph), but you can never have too much inspiration.

And look out for the trap of distraction. This is the worst of all enemies in the modern world where most of us live. This will take repeated effort to overcome. This will take up much of the training.

MIND CONTROL

In conclusion, remember always that you do have control over your mind. There are many other things which also exert some control over what you think, and therefore over what you do. But the human mind has some degree of independence. This, is what we seek to harness.

And the main way to do that is to start deliberately cutting back on distractions.
